Forget not going away in matches. The main reason Ireland give the Springboks trouble is that they are probably the one team in the world that refuses to be impressed by the world champions.

Going into Saturday’s opening Test match (kick-off 17:00) of the two-match series, Ireland are in the strange position of never having lost to the Boks during Rassie Erasmus’ six-year tenure.

While the two sides may have only played three matches in that period, it’s still a statistic which raises eyebrows when you consider that the Boks have won two World Cups in that time.
