South African rugby star Manie Libbok put a ring on his long-term girlfriend Verna-Lee Arries’ finger in July 2023 during a picturesque picnic at Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery in Cape Town. And ever since then, the pair have been preparing for the big day.
They had their bachelor and bachelorette parties in Cape Town in February. Over the weekend, Arries also celebrated her bridal shower with friends and family.
Arries — Libbok’s high school sweetheart — shared snaps from the special day with her Instagram followers.
Libbok and Arries met at Outeniqua High School in George in the Western Cape and kicked off almost immediately.
“We were in the same business class when we met. He was very shy and quiet, and I’m very bubbly, so I was the first one talking to him,” said Arries in an Insider SA interview.
Chiming in, Libbok shared how she caught his eye at the first chuck and that he immediately wanted to be close to her.
The pair have been together for almost nine years and are constantly learning each other’s love language. According to Arries, Libbok has always been a romantic who plans dates and even took her to a strawberry farm on their first one. These days, she enjoys helping him prepare for their date nights and gets particularly excited about places to eat.
The Ballroom and Latin dancer also shared how she and Libbok have so much in common and are both pretty athletic.
