BRIAN Baloyi, the former goalkeeper of Kaizer Chiefs, believes that the team’s struggle is caused by many problems including the absence of a senior official who will do the work left by the chairman, Kaizer.“Chincha Guluva” Motaung, who has left his children in the management of the Kings.
Baloyi who played for Chiefs between 1993 and 2004, was speaking on the podcast, soccerbeat, this week. It has become history that the Chiefs were among the teams that did not end the season without winning or reporting the trophy. In fact, Amakhosi, founded in 1970, are the leading team in South African football with 93 trophies.
However, the drought that has hit them in these years, has cheated them with fans. In the past ten years, Chiefs have only won the Nedbank Cup, which they won last year by defeating rivals Orlando Pirates in Durban. This season they have missed out on all the trophies and it doesn’t look like they have a chance to win the Betway Premiership league. The fans criticized the management of the team, especially Kaizer Motaung Jr.
Baloyi said the problem was with the management of the club since Motaung left, leaving it to his children, Motaung Jr, Jessica Motaung, Kemiso Motaung and Bobby Motaung.
“According to me, the person who was in charge of the team, his place cannot be filled. UChincha Guluva from founding and managing it, until he is leaving it now. It is not easy (to replace him). In previous years, Chiefs operated without a chief executive, it was always the chairman and directors in different positions. I think what can solve the problems is to have a senior official who will oversee everything, and all the workers,” said Baloyi speaking on the Soccerbeat YouTube page.
“It is either for one of them, Motaung Jr, Jessica, Kemiso and Bobby, to take this position because I think there is a vacancy that needs to be filled… Either a man or a woman who takes the position of chief executive, all of them work under him because at the moment there is a vacancy that is not visible to the naked eye when you are outside. But if you start looking at the problem in Chiefs, you will see that this is one of them, it is the vacancy left by the chairman who is no longer fully as it happened. One of them should take the position of chief executive, all of them report to him. That person is the one who will convey things to the board, to the fans and to everyone.”
Chiefs will return to the field on Saturday to face Orbit College in the Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Gqeberha.
