Bongi Sithole-Moloi, KwaZulu-Natal’s MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), says the frequency of extreme weather conditions has necessitated a review of strategies aimed at responding to disasters.

Sithole-Moloi on Thursday addressed senior officials of the province’s 54 municipalities, and called for ideas regarding “improved” disaster management.

She said that, since 2019, KZN had recorded more than 500 fatalities, with more than 12 000 houses destroyed, due to extreme weather conditions.
