Vaal River activists have applied for case management of a court order compelling the Department of Water and Sanitation to fix the wastewater treatment works along the river.
The repairs have been in the works since at least 2018, and not even the SANDF or Cuban engineers could fix the problem.
The Emfuleni Local Municipality wastewater treatment works treats wastewater and sewage from as far away as Tshwane and Johannesburg through more than 1 000km of pipelines and 44 pump stations into three treatment works in Sebokeng, Rietspruit and Leeukuil.
