A month after Absa was robbed of nearly R103 million, allegedly by the bank’s IT specialist Xolela Masebeni, more than R59 million was transferred to his best friend’s Absa account.

A source close to the investigation has revealed that Masebeni allegedly started incrementally transferring the nearly R60 million to Gershom Matomane’s personal Absa account around the same time the theft at bank started happening.

A further R15 million was also supposedly transferred to Matsomane’s company, Maduna Gubevu Trading Services, which was registered on 21 October 2021, a month after the electronic theft is said to have started.
