IT IS HARD to accept the situation in the family of a woman from Sakhamkhanya, Doringkop, KwaDukuza, who is said to have been stabbed to death by her boyfriend after returning from Easter on Sunday.

In this incident, Ms. Happy Mthethwa (35), who is said to have been killed by the suspect, who said he was going to collect his belongings from the house where he lived, was brutally killed, to show him that he is not kidding when he says that the thread is no longer connected.

According to the deceased’s sister, Ms. Kholeka Mthethwa, the incident happened when they had just returned from the Easter service they had attended on Friday.

“When we came back, he stayed for about 30 minutes, then he said he was going to the house where the suspect lived because he was guarding it in the area. I went to sleep, I was surprised that he hadn’t come back when I woke up but I thought something had happened to him,” said Ms. Mthethwa.

He said it was around noon when the message came that they should hurry to the neighbor’s house because the deceased was injured.

“I was shocked to see if he was hurt. When I got there, it was full of people, and I saw him lying on the porch of the neighbor who sent the message. It showed that he was gone, but as I was dizzy, I continued to call the ambulance,” explained Ms. Mthethwa who said that when the ambulance arrived, it confirmed that the deceased was gone.

He said they found out that the suspect started attacking him at the house of another neighbor who is a friend of the deceased. He went on to say that they found that he was beating him, strangling him but it is clear that the deceased was overpowering him.

“In that house, we found it in a mess, even the windows were damaged, it shows that there was a fight. When we found out, it is said that Happy managed to escape, he ran to the second neighbor, which is where the alleged suspect chased him, then pulled out a knife he found nearby, and stabbed him,” he said.

He revealed that while the police were waiting, the suspect came out of the house he was guarding in a drunken state, and boasted that since he was lying down, he had killed him.

“He was covered in blood everywhere. A few men who were there tried to chase him, after hearing him talk like this, they said he would not talk like that in front of them, but he managed to escape and leave them as he has not been arrested yet,” he said.

Ms Mthethwa revealed that the suspect and the deceased had been in a relationship for about three years, and said that recently, the deceased was injured but the suspect refused to take charge.

“Happy was patient but this man didn’t respect him. He was being courted, his girlfriends called Happy to threaten him. He finally got fed up and said that the relationship should end but the suspect didn’t want to,” said Ms. Mthethwa.

He revealed that even during the Easter weekend when they were in service, he kept calling her via video calls. He said that since the deceased had moved to Johannesburg to try part-time work, his roommates were also complaining about video calls.

He revealed that the suspect is just killing the deceased, he has a three-week-old child, who is said to have been given to him by a woman in the area, he said the suspect is a native of Nkwalini, Showe. He revealed that they called his sister to inform her about the damage the suspect had done, as if he sympathized with them.

“We were surprised when he came with the police on Monday, to take the suspect’s belongings. It became clear to us that he sent him,” he said.

He said that they currently do not know where the suspect is, but they have found out that he is in contact with his friend who is in the area, the mother of his young child as well as his sister. He pointed out that if the police investigate the three, the truth about where the suspect is absconding can be revealed.

The deceased has a teaching degree from the University of Zululand. He left behind three children, aged between nine and 17. It is said that he was just killed, he came down on Thursday, from his job in Johannesburg. He revealed that he was killed before he could collect the goods he intended to collect.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the KwaDukuza police have opened a case of murder following a stabbing incident by a suspect known to him on Sunday.

He said that when the police arrived at the scene, the dead body had scars, as well as a stab wound. The cause of the murder, he said, was not yet known.
