It was a big week for two groups of men (and one woman) on trial in the Western Cape High Court, each charged with crimes that resulted in a devastating cycle of violence in Cape Town.

In one courtroom was Nafiz Modack, along with 14 others, including his brother, Yaseen, and ex-rugby player Zane Kilian. The case centres on the murder of Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear.

In the other courtroom was Mark Lifman, with 13 co-accused, including alleged Sexy Boys gang boss Jerome Booysen and security company owner Andre Naude. The main charge is the murder of steroid dealer Brian Wainstein.
