A program has been officially launched that authorizes the KwaDukuza community to take charge of infrastructure maintenance.

This happened as the Mayor of this area, Mr. Siduduzo Gumede has been meeting with the community in this area with the aim of introducing this program of collaboration between the municipality and the community regarding matters related to the elderly.

The origin of this program started when the Mayor had a call and when two members of the community, Mrs. Mel Manson and Mrs. Bev Milehem, came forward and said that they wanted to work with the municipality to ensure that things related to the maintenance of the landscape were also involved in them.

They started by asking to be a part of ensuring that Willard Beach in Balito is kept clean at all times. This they believe will attract many tourists.

The Mayor then confirmed that these women will be responsible for ensuring that Willard Beach is kept clean at all times.

Due to the increase in other people who are members of the community who also came forward wanting to be part of this program, the Mayor then launched this program that allows the community to work with the municipality to maintain the infrastructure.

Mayor Gumede said that there are others who have come forward and expressed that they want to be part of the plan to repair the infrastructure of halls, libraries, clinics and sports fields.

Gumede said that as a municipality, they are very impressed by this commitment of the public when it comes to the matter of ensuring that the infrastructure is up to standard.

”We are very happy with such a good idea that came from non-white people in the community. We are determined to make this relationship work because it is something very unusual,” he said.

He highly praised the mental development of the people of Dukuza, he said that when you go to other municipalities, the people there just sit down and wait for everything to be done by the municipality.

Regarding the other programs they have, he said that the priority is to repair the roads and then ensure that people get quality housing.
