THE story of Ladysmith Black Mambazo legend, Albert Mazibuko, who died two weeks ago, after a short illness, WILL BE KEPT in a book and in history.

Mazibuko (77) died at Durban Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He passed away after retiring from performing with the band, he was only there when they practiced.

On Saturday morning, he was buried at his home cemetery in Mtshezi, and then the service took place at the sports field at Mtshezi High.

This is according to his wish and the burial is done before 11 am, according to the manager of Mambazo, Xolani Majozi. Majozi said Mazibuko will remember him by releasing a book about his history.

“We recorded a lot while we were alive, it will have a positive impact on the compilation of the milestone we are about to make,” said Majozi.

He also thanked the provincial and national governments for contributing to the funeral expenses.

“If the funeral is for family and neighbours, it will not be difficult to bear but if many people will come, because there were about 2,000 people at the funeral, there will be pressure on the family for the expenses. The government of KwaZulu-Natal led by father (Thami) Ntuli was able to get close and see what the family needs, and then help. The National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture also came forward and contributed to make the event a standard one. We are satisfied with the support to the government and society,” said Majozi.

Present at the service were Ntuli, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Sihle Zikalala, the Director General of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Stella Khumalo, the Mayor of the Municipality Inkosi Langalibalele, Mr. Mduduzi Myeza, former Minister of Sports, Mr. Zizi Kodwa and others.

The family was consoled with music by Mambazo who asked that Mazibuko not be hidden before returning to the United States of America (USA), where he had a tour, the Swatini group Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, Abanqobi, Thee Legacy and others.

The speakers admired the respect and humility of Mazibuko who left behind his wife Bongiwe Mazibuko, children and grandchildren.
