The grandmother and grandfather of a missing two-year-old toddler from Limpopo have been arrested for alleged child neglect.

Little Omphile Sethole’s grandparents were arrested on Friday by the police unit against domestic violence, child abuse and sexual offenses (FCS) in Mokopane.

The couple, aged 52 and 55 respectively, are now expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The search for Omphile has been going on for about two weeks.

Omphile disappeared from her home in Ga-Mabuela during the early hours of Saturday 2 May 2026.

Col. Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for the police in Limpopo, says the police initially filed a case of housebreaking and kidnapping, after Omphile’s grandmother noticed that she was gone at around 06:00 on the morning in question.

There was a window left open in the room from which Omphile disappeared.

Meanwhile, the search for Omphile continues.

Omphile was wearing a pink sweater and black stockings at the time of her disappearance.

Lt. gen. Thembi Hadebe, provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, on Sunday once again appealed to the community to work together with the authorities.

She also warned against the spread of misinformation regarding the case and appealed to communities to continue to provide credible information that could help the police find Omphile safe.

“We have experienced investigative officers from the Mokopane FCS unit who are working day and night to locate the missing child and establish all the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. We remain committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to book,” Hadebe said on Sunday.
