A rare 1958 Lloyd 600 recently almost stole the spotlight at a West Coast wedding, after a father transformed this neglected vehicle into a fancy wedding car in just a month – especially for his daughter’s big day.

Marcus Hugo (60) already bought the classic German car in 2021 for around R8 000 and had it towed from Pretoria to the West Coast with the dream of restoring the car himself. However, the Lloyd sat unrestored in the garage for years.

However, when his daughter, Charné Jordaan’s wedding date was set, Hugo decided to take on the project finally – and with meaning.

Within four weeks, he completely repaired the vehicle, which initially could not drive at all, so that it could be on the road in time for the wedding.

According to the family, the project required many late nights, early mornings and hours of hard work.

“How privileged I am to have a father who loves me so much. It was so much more than just a car – it was love, effort and memories that will forever be part of our story,” says Jordaan.

Hugo is an experienced restorer who has been restoring classic motorcycles and vehicles for years, but even for him this project was a big challenge due to the short time frame.

The Lloyd 600 is a compact German vehicle that was produced between 1955 and 1961 and is considered particularly rare today. According to available information, there are apparently only about ten of these cars left worldwide, of which only two are currently still drivable.

It is believed that only four Lloyd 600s still exist in South Africa, with this vehicle now one of the few that is back on the road.
