Dereleen James has been appointed as ActionSA’s provincial chairperson in the Western Cape.
James is a respected community activist and Member of Parliament. She will now lead the party’s election campaign in the Western Cape in the run-up to this year’s local elections.
ActionSA’s senate held a three-day strategic planning meeting last week. During the meeting, members of the senate planned for this year’s local elections and decided on a “focused and assertive” election campaign.
Herman Mashaba, president of ActionSA, says the senate wanted to answer a simple but critical question: “How do we take a campaign directly to South Africans who are tired of failing municipalities, deteriorating infrastructure, corruption, rising costs of living and lawlessness?”

Mashaba says the senate has come to the decision that in the run-up to the local elections the party will break away from the politics of self-interest and will instead strengthen the party’s commitment to putting the people of South Africa first.
Mashaba says ActionSA’s leaders are ready to fix what other parties have broken down.
“ActionSA was founded to break away from the failed politics of established political parties, and we remain guided by a simple principle that South Africans must be put first in every decision we make. It is this principle that defines our strategy to campaign for clear solutions.”
Hy sê ActionSA intends to launch an election campaign that is built from scratch and puts community issues at the centre. The party is therefore planning a “brave and assertive campaign” that will aggressively fight the collapse of basic services, crime, drugs and unemployment.
The party plans to make further announcements about its election campaign in a targeted number of municipalities across all nine provinces in the coming weeks.
“South Africans are tired of broken municipalities, failing services, and being forgotten.”
