A female police officer who was said to be working at the Point police station, in South Beach, Durban, was shot dead when she came to them.
According to the spokesperson of the Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), Mr. Prem Balram, the deceased, said to be an investigator, was killed by bullets in an incident that happened in Oakford, Verulam.
He said the Russians received a phone call to the scene of the incident, saying that a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer had been shot.
“The security guards attended the scene. When they arrived, they found an elderly woman sitting outside the house near the kitchen. The neighbor pointed them inside the house, and they found the deceased lying on a bed of blood between the kitchen and the living room,” said Balram.
He went on to say that he had a number of gunshot wounds, and a number of 9mm bullet shells were found at the scene.
He said that according to eyewitnesses, the deceased arrived at his mother’s house in a white BMW 320D a few minutes before the incident happened.
“It is said that he had left the door of the car slightly open as he unloaded the groceries and brought them inside the house. It turns out that two men suddenly panicked and followed him into the house, after which a gunshot was heard,” he said.
He said after that, the suspects left the house and fled in a white SUV.
It is said that the policeman’s mother, who revealed that all this happened inside the house, told the Russians that her daughter was working at the Point police station.
“This old woman failed to say more details because she looked scared,” said Balram.
