DJ Merlon encourages DJs who are looking for an opportunity to show themselves at the events he organizes to change the way they do things on social media.
Merlon is the organizer of the famous Anywhere in the City event that takes place in Durban, on the weekend, for Hollywoodbets Durban July and December. On Saturday there is another House it Up which will be held at Munies Hockey Club, Durban.
“After the success of Anywhere in the City, I thought it would be better to create another platform for DJs from Durban to show themselves. I put it on my shoulders to grow them through Afro house. Others I helped like Enoo Napa are still abroad,” said DJ Merlon.
He said that Afro house is a type of house that is full of African instruments and drums.
“If you are the producer of this music, the whole world is yours. The whole world is dancing to it now because it is different, so it is important that we, as Thekwini, do not fall behind.”
He said that others who will be playing at House It Up are Problem Child, Roseta D33p, Twin Towerz, QB DJ, Oscar Mbo, Dlala Thukzin, NAAK, Music Man, Stanky and others.
He said tickets are sold at Webticket. He went on to say that there are many who want to give them a platform to prove themselves.
“I open my arms but a person must have a way to express themselves to me. Some I meet in pubs or I hear that I work with them. They must do the same way we used to do when people send them music or mixes. It’s easier now because there are social media. I encourage them to use them and not come up and ask to play without us knowing them. Also on the pages it must be clear that the person is a DJ. Let’s say we look at your page and come across jokes or racist comments. Leave the jokes to the comedians and put things that will take you forward. Your page doesn’t sell you your work.”
