‘I wanted to be Spiderman’: Miss SA Mia le Roux chats about her past, passions and purpose
By Constance Gaanakgomo
Mia Le Roux made history on 10 August by becoming the first hearing-impaired woman to win the Miss SA pageant.
But she wasn’t always the girl who walked ramps and wore stilettos. She tells News24’s Constance Gaanakgomo that she was a tomboy in primary school.
Although she started wearing her mom’s shoes, all dolled up with her dresses, that quickly changed as she got older.
“When I was in primary school, I was such a tomboy. I wanted to be Spiderman. I wore my brother’s Spiderman suit all the time.”

In a world increasingly connected yet paradoxically distant, finding authentic connections can feel like a challenge. Enter the Connect Supper Club—a concept designed by actor and musician Nirvana Nokwe that promises to bridge that gap.
The inaugural event in this series, co-hosted by Stella Artois, took place earlier this month at the trendy Mamasamba restaurant in Rosebank, Johannesburg, and was nothing short of remarkable.

By Andrew Thompson
Soaring snow capped peaks, shimmering teal lakes, quaint and quirky villages, and ultra-modern cities, there’s very little not to love about Switzerland. And there’s no better way to explore it than onboard its truly remarkable train network.
Although this long list of superlatives comes at a cost, investing in a Swiss Travel Pass can ease some of the financial and logistical burden you may feel as a traveller with a pocket full of rands.
Charlotte Bauer | Diary of a Semigrant: Cape Town’s pawsome Museum of Dogs is a tail-wagging delight
By Charlotte Bauer
The last thing I expected when I visited Cape Town’s new Museum of Dogs was to exit through the gift shop clicking my heels and humming a pop tune.
I’d imagined the museum, which opened last month, to be full of doggy-types in anoraks covered in Labrador hair.
I feared it would smell of kennels and there would only be dental sticks to eat at the café.
Admittedly, I only went because it sounded so … Cape Townish and, as a recently arrived Joburger, I’m on a mission to explore my differently-abled adopted hometown’s quirks wherever I find them.
REVIEW | BMW’s compact X2 goes bigger, and it’s great for everyday driving
By Wilhelm Lutjeharms
Sometimes, manufacturers stay with a trusted design concept for several years or even decades, and other times, they will change the concept from one generation to the next. BMW’s X5 has been around since 1999, while the smaller X3 followed only a few years later, in 2003.
These two concepts have remained largely the same throughout each respective generation. As manufacturers and the market moved to smaller SUVs or crossovers, the X2 joined the line-up in 2017 (after the X1 in 2009).
