President Cyril Ramaphosa will be returning to his office in the West Wing of the Union Buildings in Pretoria after being re-elected on Friday.
Announcing the result late on Friday, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said: “The results of the ballot are as follows: the total number of ballot papers issued is 339. The total number of ballot papers counted is 339. The total number of spoilt or invalid ballot papers is 12. The candidates’ votes are as follows. Honourable JS Malema, 44 votes. As soon as the announcement was made, newly sworn-in ANC caucus MPs cheered, whistled, applauded, ululated and sang: “Ramaphosa re mo rata kaofela. Re tsamaya le yena. Ke konokono…” It’s a song about ANC members’ love for Ramaphosa.
