At Atlantic Studios in Cape Town, Penguin Films has constructed detailed sets, including homestead rooms, a hotel bar, and a town thoroughfare. Additionally, scenes are filmed at a commercial flower farm hundreds of kilometres away. The producers of kykNET’s new telenovela, Skemergrond, masterfully integrate these elements with a cast of well-known TV soap actors to create a seamless viewing experience.
Skemergrond, starting Monday at 19:30 on kykNET&Kie (Dstv 145), is set in the fictional Western Cape town of Gemoedsdrif, where the lives of several families are intertwined through past secrets, present danger and future fears all around flowers.
While e.tv’s Kelders van Geheime telenovela is completely filmed on a real working farm, Skemergrond also uses actual farm on-location shoots, augmented by filming on sets built inside Studio 9 at Atlantic Studios.
