More than 6 000 pupils in the Free State are aged between 20 and 30 years, according to statistics seen by News24.

At least 3 233 of the pupils are aged 20 while 1 589 are 21 and 717 are 22.

The compulsory schooling age group is seven to 15 years or the end of Grade 9. A pupil who is more than two years older than the age group norm for a specific grade is classified as an over-age pupil.
