A man accused of murdering a 63-year-old pensioner, setting his body alight, and then burying the remains in a yard in Motetema in Limpopo has been found and arrested in Pretoria.
According to police, the 28-year-old suspect attacked the victim at his home in July 2022. He is also accused of stealing the man’s vehicle, which he then reportedly sold.
After becoming aware that police were tracing him, the suspect allegedly exhumed the victim’s remains, which he then scattered in a friend’s yard.
“His friend, who was allegedly not aware of the incident, informed the police after he discovered the human remains in his yard,” Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said in a statement.
More than two years later, the police found the suspect in Sunnyside on Thursday.
He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
