The biggest surprise for Eskom CEO Dan Marokane when he resumed office in March 2024 was discovering the extent of “skills flight” from the power utility – both at a technical and executive level.

The chief executive was speaking at a briefing on Friday, where he provided an update on plans for Eskom now that he has passed his 100-day mark.

“The challenges that this business faced were quite intense,” he told journalists.
