- A bus accident in Limpopo has resulted in 10 deaths.
- The bus reportedly overturned when the driver went over a roundabout at a high speed.
- More than 30 others were injured in the accident.
Ten people were killed in a bus accident in Limpopo on Tuesday night.
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Violet Mathye said that the victims – who were travelling to Johannesburg from Zimbabwe – died on the N1 highway near Makhado just before midnight.
Mathye confirmed that the five men and five women were all foreign nationals.
More than 30 others were injured, with 12 being in serious conditions.
“According to reports, the bus drove over a roundabout, the last traffic circle from Makhado toward Polokwane, at a high speed, lost control and overturned, killing and injuring its passengers in the process,” said Mathye.
“The bus driver is reportedly new in his job and not familiar with the surroundings. The scene has been cleared, and the injured passengers have been taken to various hospitals in Makhado.”

Mathye said messages of condolences had been sent to the families of the victims.
She urged motorists to be alert to their surroundings and to drive with caution.
In April, a bus crash near Mokopane in Limpopo resulting in the death of 45 Botswana nationals.
The bus was transporting passengers from Botswana to Moria, when the driver lost control, and the bus went over a cliff.
The only survivor was an 8-year-old child.
